New Skilled Work Regional visas and changes to the planning level of the migration
program are some of the impacts of the Federal Budget 2019 on migration and BSMQ.
Recent announcements in BSMQ (Business & Skilled Migration Queensland)
- Discontinuation of The RSMS (Subclass 187) and Skilled Regional (Subclass 489).
- With effect from 16 November 2019, new Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visas will be introduced.
- The temporary graduate (Subclass 485) visa (previously announced) for regional
graduates will be extended an additional 12 months, A second post - study work visa will
be introduced from 2021 for international graduates with a total of 3 years.
- Visa subclass Base VACs (excluding Visitor Subclass 600) will increase by 5.4% as of 1 July 2019
For the next four years, the level of Migration Program Planning will be reduced to
160,000 permanent places per year.
How does BSMQ (Business & Skilled Migration Queensland) affect these changes?
The biggest change affecting BSMQ is to discontinue the Subclass 489 visa and introduce the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa on November 16, 2019.
The new Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa is valid for 5 years (instead of
4 under the current subclass 489) and for 3 years a applicant will have to live and work
in a regional area (instead of living in regional Queensland for 2 years and working for
1 as currently).
This visa will be subject to priority processing and will also be implemented with
enhanced compliance activities.
For financial Years 2019 -2020
Queensland has negotiated an increase in the number of appointment allocations across
business as well as skilled programs.
In the new financial year (July 2019), BSMQ (
Business & Skilled Migration Queensland) programs will reopen with new quota.
