The pilot program aims to make permanent residency more accessible to international students who have completed one of 19 authorized academic programs.

The province of New Brunswick has launched a new immigration pilot program for international students who have graduated from the province's four private career colleges.

International students who have studied in one of 19 selected occupations and have graduated from Atlantic Business College, Eastern College, McKenzie College, or Oulton College will be entitled to apply to the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) beginning April 1, 2022.

The PNP enables Canadian provinces and territories to discover potential immigrants who might help them satisfy their local economic needs. Many PNP programs cater to foreign students, and some are even specially designed for them.

The precise information and criteria for the new pilot project will not be available until the fall. The pilot initiative, however, is meant for recent graduates of authorized learning institutions who are not currently qualified for the federal Post-Graduation Work Permit program, according to the government.

Furthermore, this pilot program will be limited to approved New Brunswick educational institutions that have had this designation for at least five years and provide qualifying programs of study in the following areas:

• social and community service workers;

• early childhood educators and assistants;

• educational assistants;

• health-care aides;

• home support workers;

• licensed practical nurses;

• paramedics and related occupations;

• medical laboratory technologists;

• medical laboratory technicians and pathologists’ assistants;

• medical administrative assistants;

• computer programmers and interactive media developers;

• web designers and developers;

• computer network technicians;

• user support technicians;

• accounting technicians and bookkeepers;

• payroll clerks;

• shippers and receivers;

• supply chain and logistics supervisors; and

• production logistics co-ordinators

The new pilot program is a partnership between Opportunities NB (ONB), the province's leading business development organization, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
