Express Entry applicants did not have a CRS cap in the latest Ontario PNP draw for the second time in two days.
On February 24, Ontario welcomed 818 Express Entry applicants to file for a provincial nomination.
Candidates who may be qualified for the Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream were invited by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). These applicants needed an Express Entry profile with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 359 in order to be considered. Candidates who registered an Express Entry profile between February 24, 2021, and February 24, 2022, were invited to apply.
Ontario has lifted its CRS cap for the second time in a row. Without a provincial nomination, an Express Entry candidate can earn up to 600 points. Candidates whose CRS score was over the maximum range prior to the February 22 draw were unable to seek for the nomination.
More Express Entry applicants will be able to apply for permanent residency in Ontario.
Since September 2021, Canada has not done an Express Entry draw for anybody other than PNP applicants. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has not said when draws for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) candidates would continue, but has previously stated that it will be in the "near future."
Candidates in Ontario with Express Entry scores of greater than 467 were not invited to file for a nomination in 2021. As a result, several contenders attempted to lower their pool ratings in order to receive an Ontario nomination.
Canada expects to bring in 83,500 immigrants this year through both Express Entry-aligned and basic PNP categories, according to the updated 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan. The new objectives are higher than those set by the government in the previous levels plan, which called for 81,500 PNP immigrants in 2022 and 83,000 in 2023.
Ontario’s biggest draw of the year so far was on January 27, when the province invited 1,032 Skilled Trades Stream candidates. With 773 applicants, Ontario had its largest HCP draw of the year on February 23.
The Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream in Ontario provides opportunities for CEC applicants.
For Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class applicants, Ontario's Express Entry-linked Skilled Trades Stream provides a road to permanent residency. Eligible candidates are invited to seek for a provincial nomination through the OINP.
Candidates must reside in Ontario and have a valid work permit to be considered. They must also have completed at least one year of a full-time job or the equivalent in part-time work. They must have completed this work experience in a skilled trade classified in Canada's National Occupational Classification (NOC) in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82.
There is no necessity for a job offer to apply for the Skilled Trades Stream, but candidates must fulfil all federal and provincial standards.
To be considered for a provincial nomination, you must first create a profile in the Express Entry system.
