The International Experience Canada program will now accept more applicants, and the program will officially start in 2023, according to IRCC's announcement made today.

For its International Experience Canada (IEC) program's coming year, the Canadian government will increase the number of applicants. At a news conference held today in Banff, Alberta, they disclosed the program's start date as January 9, 2023.

The International Experience Canada (IEC) program enables young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who reside in any of Canada's 36 partner countries to work and travel for up to two years here, and vice versa.

Its application scale will expand by 20%, or almost 15,000 extra slots, on January 9th, 2023. As a result, "almost 90,000 individuals, including Francophone youth, will be able to work and travel in Canada, which will assist companies to cover labor shortfalls, notably for seasonal job possibilities in Canada's tourism industry."

According to Sean Fraser, minister of immigration, "Our government is assisting more foreign youngsters to work and visit in Canada, thereby assisting companies, most of whom are in the tourist industry, locate the personnel they need.

Especially in regions like Banff that need seasonal labor, we are boosting our economy and assisting our companies by providing youth with the chance to experience foreign travel and employment.

Last but not least, this upcoming IEC program modification enables Canada to further two highly desired goals: helping Canadian employers find the workers they require and encouraging "youth to explore new cultures, languages, and societies, all while developing life skills and improving their job prospects for the future."

The three streams that make up the IEC program are listed below.

Working Holiday: In order to "finance their travels," IEC participants in this stream "get an open work visa that permits them to work anywhere in the host nation."

International Co-op (Internship): An employer-specific work permit is granted to participants in this IEC stream. Students can get specialized work experience in their subject of study with the help of this customized work permit.

Young Professionals: Like those in the international co-op stream, participants in this IEC program stream also acquire an employer-specific work visa. However, the experience these students obtain is intended to help them follow their selected career path in addition to allowing them to "gain focused, professional job experience that is within their field of study."
