An Overview of Australia’s Skilled Migration Program

Of the states of Queensland and Victoria are, at present, accepting application for Skilled Nomination Visa.

The advisory says that the application for the new process is applicable for the occupations like Nursing, Engineering and Building sectors. Applicants other than the above-mentioned have to submit applications without getting approval or selection from the state. Whereas, the new process says that the applicant has to get selection from the state and then only nomination can be filed for Victorian Visa.

There is no change observed in the occupation list for Victoria. Furthermore, Queensland had gone under certain changes in Occupation List.

To Apply in Queensland, Australia

The State Government, via its website, has announced acceptance of applications. For General Skilled Migration Program, the government will receive EOI.

However, there are changes in the minimum points observed by both the states. For General Skilled Migration, the department of Home Affairs, there is an increase of 5 points in the basic threshold. The increase is from 60 to 65 points.

The Territories and States of Australia manage their own migration program to meet the labour and skill requirements. The migration program helps them sponsor applicants for skilled visa and different visa programs. Every applicant gets additional points as rewards when he gets nomination from the state. The points get added to the migration program points.

BSMQ criteria requires you to:
  • have an occupation on the QSOL ‘Offshore’ list
  • provide evidence that you have a minimum of 2 years post-qualification work experience in your nominated occupation. More experience may be required for certain occupations
  • commit to living and working in Queensland from the date that you arrive in Queensland to live permanently
  • offshore applicants applying under an ICT, Cook or Chef occupation must show evidence of a minimum 12 month job offer with a Queensland employer registered in Australia. The job offer must be related to your occupation, and evidence is required showing acceptance of the offer.
