Working for 3 years in the Northern Territory, Australia will enable you to apply for permanent residency. This new criteria has been set in place to attract more low skilled workers to Australia. 117 occupations are available to choose from for low skilled immigration applicants. These figures have been released under the Designation Area Migration Agreements (DAMA.) Apart from Northern Territory, this scheme will also benefit other towns such as Warrnambool, Victoria.
This brand-new scheme is called the Northern Territory Designated Area Migration Agreement – or DAMA, for short.
The DAMA allows NT (Northern Territory) employers to sponsor skilled and semi-skilled overseas workers for positions they are unable to fill with local workers.
This isn’t the first agreement that is striving to bring low skilled workers into these territories. However, it is the first one that will provide permanent residency which would be a great incentive for immigrants. Like many other developed countries, Australia is struggling to keep up its manufacturing sector. The declining population provides few low skilled workers who are willing to do the hard work. Most immigrants coming in to Australia are high skilled and want to live in towns such as Sydney and Melbourne. This has lead to a crisis in rural parts of Australia which aren’t growing much when compared to their urban counterparts.
A new scheme to distribute the migrant population from major cities in Australia such as Sydney and Melbourne to regional areas across the country has been announced by the Australian government.
This new scheme listed 117 occupations that skilled migrants can opt- to work and lift in the Northern Territories for at least three years that will later offer the pathway to Permanent Residency in Australia.
These 117 occupations range from cooks to motor mechanics to family day care workers who will now be eligible to apply for Australian permanent residency.
