Latest Express draw held on May 29 by Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited a total of 3,350 immigrants who have applied for Canadian permanent residency via the federal government’s express entry program.
The latest express draw also signifies the return of the express draw to the larger size of invitations issued. With the previous express draw that was on May 15, it was restricted to only the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and issued a total 500 Invitation to Apply (ITAs).
Total number of ITAs issued this year keeping in count the latest draw is 35,100 ITAs. Canada has increased their admission rate for the three Federal Skilled Programs that are managed by express entry program and will also be increased for coming years: 2020 and 2021. Admission target for this year 2019 is set at 81,400 new permanent residents which is an increase of 6,500 admissions over the last year (2018) admissions target of 74,900 new permanent residents.
Express entry program – a point-based program manages the profiles of the candidates who have registered under the three economic immigration programs – Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). To select skilled immigrants from the express pool, express entry uses a ranking system known as the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Points are awarded to express profile based on the factors like Language skills, education, adaptability, etc., CRS ranks the profile according to these points. Highest ranked profiles are then issued ITAs to apply for Canada PR visa.
May 29 express draw set the CRS score cut-off at 470 points. With IRCC using time stamp-May 23, 2019, at 10:18:56 UTC. This means candidates who have entered the express pool before May 23, 2019, at 10:58:56 UTC and was able to score a minimum of 470 points were issued the ITAs.
This increase in CRS score cut-off is basically because of the time interval of nearly one month between the express draw for all programs with the majority of the time interval between two consecutive express draws is around two weeks. With the previous draw held on May 1, it has given the express pool more than enough time to replenish with more skilled and capable immigrants.
For the candidates who are not able to clear the CRS cut-off, they can go for increasing their CRS score. The most valuable way in terms of giving a major boost to the Candidate’s CRS score is to get a provincial nomination. Express entry candidate who is able to get a provincial nomination, are awarded 600 CRS points. Getting this many pretty much makes sure that the candidate is able to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Some of the provincial nomination programs (PNPs) that were active in recent weeks are as follows:
- Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
- Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)
- Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)
- Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)
- British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
