Federal Government Temporarily Discontinued the Prominent Immigration Sponsorship Program

The federal government has suspended the famous immigration program which enables individuals to nominate their parents and grandparents to invite them to live in Canada.

The immigration program aimed towards sponsoring parents and grandparents generally opens for application submission only once in a year and most often in the month of January.

However, the newly appointed Federal Minister of Immigration, Marco Mendicino has announced that the application process for this immigration scheme will be postponed for the year 2020.

“These instructions will give the concerned department ample amount of time which is required in the completion of development of intake management process for new applications specifically focused towards the parents and grandparents sponsorship program, that will be finally implemented in the year 2020”, Mendicino explained in a set of instructions which were published in December 2019 and will be circulated among the general public by his department in the coming week.

The application process for this particular immigration program has been changed several times now in the past few years after repeated criticism and problems encountered within the system.

The system for application submission was designed to in the manner where required documents used to get accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, but this particular system was demolished after people effectively seek their way towards the front of the line through hiring couriers thereby ensuring that their forms remain at the top of the application pile.

The Liberals then designed the lottery system, which again received a lot of criticism for being too unorganized and random and then an online program that in the year 2019 saw all the procedures seized within minutes of its introduction.

The Liberal Government promised to review the system from the beginning, but a final decision on what are the plans for parents and grandparent’s immigration program for 2020 was delayed even further due to the federal elections.

The program is proposed to reopen at some point of time in the next year, according to a statement given by Mr. Mendicino being posted online.

“The Minister of Immigration of Canada will provide further instructions related to the application intake management process for parents and grandparents immigration program latest by April 1, 2020.

About 20,000 individuals get admitted annually through the parent and grandparent sponsorship program, but it currently taken approximately a year to process the complete application.
