After nearly five months, direct communication between India and Canada has been reconnected. Air Canada has resumed nonstop flights between Delhi and Toronto, with a new procedure requiring WHO-approved vaccinated passengers to do an RT-PCR or rapid PCR test at the Covid-19 Testing Centre and Lounge at Delhi Airport's Terminal 3 within 18 hours of boarding.

“Either of these exact tests is required by Air Canada since no other test from any other facility inside India will be allowed, even if you are connecting from a different city. You may also be eligible to fly if you submit documentation of a certified positive PCR test result obtained between 14 and 180 days prior to your scheduled departure flight to Canada, according to Air Canada's "testing criteria for flights from India" website.

The need for a negative RT-PCR report from a third nation is no longer in place. The first post-resumption flight, AC 42 (Toronto-Delhi), will arrive at the destination at 9 p.m. on Monday, with passengers departing from here on Tuesday.

Air India may soon begin nonstop flights between Delhi - Vancouver and Delhi - Toronto.

“In addition to the above-mentioned additional criteria, the following travel conditions continue to apply: All travellers must be immunised twice. Canada only recognises the following vaccines: Johnson / Moderna / Pfizer/Covishield.   All papers must be uploaded to https://www.arrivecan-online.com/ before to departure. In a statement obtained by TOI, Air Canada advised travel partners to visit the Government of Canada website www.canada.ca for more information and updates.

During the devastating second Covid wave in India, Canada stopped all commercial and private passenger flights from India on April 23, 2021, and the ban was in effect until Tuesday (September 21). Since then, travellers travelling from India to Canada have had to transit via another country and obtain a Covid negative test report from that transit country before flying to their final destination.

“Kindly be aware that Air Canada's boarding procedures for flights from India to Canada have changed. The only Covid-19 tests that are approved are RT-PCR tests...” According to the Air Canada website. While flights between Delhi and Toronto have resumed, AI flight plans for Canada are still pending.

“Because your clients have a scheduled Air Canada flight from Delhi, they must schedule their RT-PCR test ahead of time. We recommend that your consumers schedule an appointment no later than six hours before their flight departs in order to obtain their tests on time. They should seek for the specific compartment at the testing facility if they are travelling in signature class. Our airport check-in counters will be open 6 hours prior to departure if they require additional help. We regret any disruption this may have caused to your clients' travel arrangements. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” Air Canada said in a statement to travellers.
