Darwin is one of the top three locations for job seekers along with Brisbane and Sydney and along with Perth is the choice location for construction workers with jobs paying almost 20% more than the national average. But regional cities are doing it tough with Bendigo the hardest city in the country to find work with 32 applicants for every vacancy.

Shepparton, Wagga Wagga and Port Macquarie are also rated as employment black spots with more than 20 people applying for each job advertised.

It also shows wages are falling in some of the regional centres with salary packages in Hornsby, Mornington and Bendigo around 60 per cent below similar roles in the major cities.
