Major reforms have been proposed for Australia Migration to the benefit of skilled and young applicants. These changes have been proposed in order to infuse Australia’s population with more skilled individuals. The changes have been proposed by the Productivity Commission that created the ‘Migrant Intake Into Australia’ report in order to analyze the current migration process.
There report encompassed both the factors in Australia and foreign countries from where people are migrating to Australia. Currently the factors are measured quantitatively on the basis of parameters such as:
- Age
- Health
- Skill Proficiency
- Language Proficiency
- Educational Qualification
Net Worth
The candidates were also required to submit a character certificate such as a police check certificate. The police check certificate also verified the eligibility for security check.
The new factors have proposed so that:
- Income and living standard of Australian citizens improves
- Budget of Australian government improves
- Entry charges
- Tax to be received in future
- Government spending in future
- Australia meets its international obligations
- The benefits and costs of both permanent and temporary migration have been weighed before making the final proposals
Occupation
The new factors give more focus to occupation. This is done in order to make sure that occupations with job opening are tied up with skilled individuals for maximum benefit. The skill requirements are to set solely on the basis of the occupation through which the applicant has applied. This will make sure that each individual is judged according to the skilled required for a particular occupation.
Also, all the migration programs related to skilled workers must be brought under the umbrella of one points based system to make the whole process easier.
Age
The age limit is to be considerably reduced from 50 years in order to facilitate the migration of younger applicants. The age limit is to be reduced in most of the migration programs especially the skilled ones. Still, they are in a pickle as they want people with high proficiency in their skills to be able to migrate easily to Australia. This is why a proposal for certain exceptions to the age limit have been made.
No of applicants
Applicants without any dependent family members will be given preference. A lot of cost is involved in the process of migration and even more for the dependents. Australia wants to cut this cost by providing benefit or more points to single applicants without dependents Furthermore, the primary applicant will be awarded more points than the dependants in the immigration process. Also, the primary applicant should be given more points on the basis of skills and traits of the secondary applicant.
Assessment of Dependants
To up the ante, it has been recommended that the adult partners and children of the primary applicant should be assessed to maximize the benefit to Australia. All factors such as skills, age, and education and so on need to be taken into consideration.
