FOR the first time in Australia’s history, its population is not being replenished mostly by fresh stock from the mother country or China, both of which have been overtaken by India.

Almost 30,000 Indians migrated to Australia in 2011-12, making it the No 1 country of origin, representing about 15 per cent of the total intake of 185,000, according to data released by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship yesterday.
