The Government of Australia recently announced a range of changes in the Student and Graduate visa arrangements after the worldwide turbulence caused by Covid-19 pandemic, which has appropriately acknowledged and have addressed some important issues raised by the foreign students and universities.

The following information highlights the key changes introduced in the system:

Study Requirement for Australian Work Visa

All those international students, who hold a valid Student Visa and are been permitted to pursue their studies online from outside the Australian subcontinent, while being in their home countries, will be further allowed to count this particular study period for the Australian Study Requirement when they will be applying for the Graduate Post-Study work visa.

Graduate Applications from Overseas

International students who have already completed their studies from an Australian university or college are enabled to apply further for the Graduate Visa while they are still present outside Australia and are stuck overseas or in their home countries due to the travel restrictions imposed by Covid-19 pandemic.

Processing Restarts

Student Visa Applications will be resumed for the processing again, so that all eligible and approved visa holders can get themselves ready to travel as soon as the Australian borders will reopen.

No Fee Applications

Some of the international students will be permitted to submit their new Student Visa applications free of cost, under conditions where they not being able to complete their studies during the given validity period of their approved and original student visas, due to the pandemic situation.

Extension provided in English Testing

Applicants will be given extra time to submit their results of the English language test as disruptions have been reported at many places in the testing services due to the Covid-19 situation worldwide.

Please note that the changes described above would be necessarily requiring new legislations to be approved and then released by the Australian Department of Immigration. Details on the eligibility criteria and the requirements are yet to be made public.

There are numerous students and recent graduates from overseas that are been impacted by the Covid-19 travel restrictions, so this particular announcement made by the Government of Australia is highly welcomed.

Updates will be available on Immigration Experts website as soon as they will be proposed by the Australian Government.
