July 20, 2021

Starting from August 9, all the American travellers who have been vaccinated completely will be allowed to readmit in Canada mainly for the essential as well as recreational purposes.

Starting from September 7, the same exemption will be granted to the fully vaccinated international travellers coming to Canada from across the world.

Further also on August 9, the mandatory 3 nights stay in a government approved hotel will be removed permanently for all the travellers, either vaccinated or not. Those individuals who are not vaccinated will simply be required to go to their place of residence or any stay in a hotel in order to complete the important 14 day quarantine.

However, most importantly, the travel ban that has prevented direct flights from India will be prolonged until August 21 of this year for now.

It seems to be really exciting to watch Canada easing some of its border entering requirements. However, we need to consider the following important points also while seeing the change happening:

  • Only those individuals who are American citizens and also Green Card holders that are currently residing in the US are only allowed to make their entry in Canada from the August 9 travel exemption and not those international travelers that are departing from the US;
  • Pre-departure (negative molecular) tests will be continued to be mandated even for those travellers who have already completely their vaccination and fall under the travel exemption due to this reason;
  • Exempt travelers should still be required to prepare their quarantine plan in the situation where they will be asked to quarantine;
  • Non-vaccinated children, those are 11 years old or younger than this age group will be allowed to accompany their parents who have completed their vaccination without undergoing quarantine. But still they will be suggested to avoid exposing themselves to crowded areas such as schools, camps and more;
  • Airlines will be mandated to verify that all the travellers boarding the flight have registered and also uploaded their evidence of vaccination in the ArriveCAN application before travelling;
  • Covid tests on the arrival in the country will not be required for those travellers who have completed their vaccination. However, still some travellers will be selected randomly for the testing on their arrival;

Important Note: The term, fully vaccinated is only applied for those vaccines that are approved by Health Canada, with the last dose received in a minimum duration of 14 days before travelling to Canada
