Applicants seeking spousal, common-law, and dependent child sponsorship can now check on the status of their applications online.
Canada has launched an online platform where candidates for spousal and child sponsorship may track their applications.
On the government's website, you may find the tracker. It is currently exclusively for spousal, common-law, and dependent child sponsorship applications. It is accessible to both applicants and representatives.
The information on the tracker is subject to change at any point before IRCC officials make any final judgments, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It also warns that there may be occasional discrepancies or delays between the actual status of sponsorship applications and the data displayed in the tracker.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser revealed the tracker earlier this week as part of an effort to modernize Canada's immigration system.
According to a government press release, "we recognize that customers demand quicker access to progress updates on their case files." "As a result, in February 2022, we will launch a new Permanent Residence Application Tracker for spouses and dependents, allowing customers to easily access application information and status online."
In the summer of 2022, the government also plans to open up online applications to additional potential immigrants. The shift to more online application processes is designed to reduce the time it takes to process paper applications and to combat the pandemic.
The government stated in the announcement that their efforts have resulted in average processing times for new spousal sponsorship applications returning to the standard of 12 months.
There has been a backlog in immigration applications in Canada across all industries. There were 54,683 spousal sponsorship candidates and 8,848 children and other family class applicants awaiting a decision as of December 2021.
