In the latest Express Entry draw, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 964 candidates to apply (ITAs) under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). To qualify, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 686.

Today’s draw marks the eighth Express Entry draw this month, reflecting a busy period for the program. Recent draws have alternated between program-specific selections, such as the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and PNP, and category-based selections.

In category-based draws, the majority of ITAs have been issued to candidates with French language proficiency, totaling 5,000 ITAs over two draws. Additionally, IRCC issued 3,750 ITAs to healthcare candidates on July 5 and 1,800 ITAs to candidates in trade occupations on July 4.

This month has also seen a significant number of ITAs issued in program-specific draws. By July 18, IRCC had invited 6,300 Canadian Experience Class candidates and 2,311 PNP candidates. Many candidates in these programs are already living and working in Canada as temporary residents. The return to program-specific draws on May 30, after a year-long hiatus, aligns with IRCC’s goal of holding more domestic draws.

In March, IRCC introduced a new objective to reduce and stabilize the number of temporary residents in Canada while meeting permanent resident targets outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan.

Summary of Express Entry Draw Results in 2024

Draw a List of May to July 2024

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an application management system for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). These programs use the Comprehensive Ranking System to evaluate candidates based on factors such as age, education, occupation, language abilities, and work experience. Higher CRS scores increase the likelihood of receiving an ITA.

Express Entry aims to facilitate faster processing for high-skilled candidates, with a service standard of six months for processing applications.

What is Category-Based Selection?

To target candidates with specific skills or attributes needed in Canada, IRCC introduced category-based selection draws in May 2023. Categories include:

  1. Healthcare occupations
  2. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  3. Trades occupations, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  4. Transport occupations
  5. Agriculture and agri-food occupations
  6. French-language proficiency

These categories will remain in place for the rest of 2024 but may change next year.
