In recent news, Government of South Australia has taken up certain steps that will directly affect the Subclass 457 visa holders who have kids going to public school in South Australia. The Government has suggested public education fee contribution for 457 subclass visa holders. As per the proposed plan the visa holders shifting to South Australia in the year 2017 will have to pay the fees in that year itself if they have children going to public school, while the same will apply to older visa holders from 1st January 2018. The fees charged will depend on certain criteria as mentioned below:
- Annual fees by a family of 457 visa holder amounts to $5,100 for primary school student and $6,100 for high school one.
- The amount for first child will be taken in full while the other siblings will get a discount of 10%
- The fees can be paid annually, semester vise, term vise or in installments.
- The fees will not be charged to those families whose total family income does not amount $57,000 or above it.
These changes are said to impact Indian living in South Australia the most as they make up for 2nd largest community right after China.
