In a significant update, IRCC has issued 1,800 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a category-based selection draw specifically for trade occupations. Candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 436 to qualify.

This draw marks the first category-based selection since April 24 and the first for trade occupations since December 2023. According to an IRCC memo from last April, trade occupation draws are expected to account for 5% of all ITAs in category-based selections this year.

Check Your CRS Score for Canada PR!

Earlier this week, on July 2, IRCC conducted a draw focused solely on Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, inviting 920 individuals with a minimum CRS score of 739. This follows a recent trend of program-specific draws that began earlier this year. Since May 30, IRCC has held four such draws, three of which targeted PNP candidates.

Program-specific draws consider only those in the Express Entry pool who have applied through specific programs such as the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), or the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). PNP-only draws focus on candidates who have received an enhanced nomination through an Express Entry aligned stream of a PNP.

Since January, IRCC has aimed to stabilize the high levels of temporary residents in Canada. One strategy has been offering more pathways to permanent residency for those already in Canada on work or study permits or visitor visas. Many temporary residents apply for permanent residency through the CEC or PNP, allowing IRCC to meet its yearly target for "Federal High Skilled Workers" (Express Entry) while reducing the number of temporary residents.

Summary of Express Entry Draw Results in 2024

What is Express Entry?

Introduced in 2015, the Express Entry application management system allows IRCC to target candidates with in-demand human capital attributes and process their applications swiftly. It manages applications from the FSWP, FSTP, and CEC.

The CRS evaluates candidates based on factors like age, work experience, language ability, and occupation. Each factor is assigned a score, and the total determines the candidate's overall CRS score. Higher scores increase the likelihood of receiving an ITA in future draws.

Express Entry draws vary, including program-specific draws, category-based selection draws, and general draws, which consider all candidates regardless of their program or occupation.
