Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently issued invitations to apply (ITAs) in the latest Express Entry draw. In this round, 5,000 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) were invited. To be eligible, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 510.

Today’s draw marks the ninth of a busy month for Express Entry. Throughout July, IRCC has issued a total of 25,125 invitations to apply (ITAs).

This month’s draws have alternated between program-specific draws, such as those for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and category-based selection draws.

In the category-based draws, the majority of ITAs have been awarded to candidates with French language proficiency, totaling 5,000 ITAs over two draws. On July 5, IRCC issued 3,750 ITAs to healthcare candidates, and on July 4, 1,800 ITAs were issued to candidates in trade occupations.

Program-specific draws have also seen a high number of ITAs. As of July 31, IRCC has invited 11,300 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class and 3,275 from the Provincial Nominee Program. Candidates in these programs often already reside and work in Canada as temporary residents. The resumption of program-specific draws on May 30, after a year-long hiatus, aligns with IRCC’s goal to increase domestic draws.

In March, IRCC introduced a new objective to reduce and stabilize the number of temporary residents in Canada while achieving its permanent resident targets as outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan.

What actually is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a streamlined immigration system used by Canada to manage skilled worker applications. Essentially, it combines several pathways, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. Consequently, it simplifies the process for skilled individuals seeking permanent residency.

Express Entry is a management system for applications under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

These three programs are key components of Canada’s economic immigration strategy. They use the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess candidates based on human capital factors such as age, education, occupation, language proficiency, and work experience.

Each factor is assigned a score, and together these scores form the candidate’s overall CRS score. Candidates with higher CRS scores are considered more likely to contribute to Canada’s workforce and enhance its demographics, making them more likely to receive an invitation to apply (ITA).

Express Entry aims to expedite the processing of applications for high-skilled candidates. The department has set a service standard of six months for processing Express Entry applications.
