Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the most recent Express Entry draw.

In this category-based selection round, 2,000 candidates with French language proficiency were invited.

Candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 394.

This is the third draw of the week, following a program-specific draw on August 14 that invited 3,200 Canadian Experience Class candidates.

On August 13, 763 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates received ITAs, with a minimum CRS score of 690 required.

This week’s draws come after an exceptional July, during which IRCC conducted nine separate Express Entry draws and issued over 25,000 ITAs.

July saw the highest number of Express Entry draws in any month since the system’s inception in 2015, marking a notable recovery from a slow June with only.

In July, four draws were category-based selection rounds, with two specifically targeting candidates with French language proficiency. The July 18 draw for this category had the lowest CRS score of the month at 400.

The remaining two category-based draws were focused on candidates in healthcare occupations and skilled trades.

Of the remaining five draws, two were program-specific for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), while three targeted candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The highest CRS score of the month, 739, was required for PNP candidates on July 2.

The increase in program-specific draws, following a year dominated by category-based and general draws, indicates that IRCC is fulfilling its commitment to conduct more domestic draws for permanent residency candidates already residing in Canada. This move aligns with the department’s goal to reduce the influx of temporary residents while meeting its permanent resident admission targets.

What is Express Entry?

Introduced by IRCC in 2015, Express Entry is an application management system designed to select economic immigration candidates who are most likely to successfully integrate into Canada’s economy and workforce.

The system utilizes the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to process applications from three programs: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Candidates are evaluated and ranked based on key human capital factors such as age, occupation, education, language ability, and work experience. Each factor receives a score, which contributes to the candidate's overall CRS score. Those with the highest scores have the greatest likelihood of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency.
