In an initiative to increase the global competency of the Ontario economy, the province has plans attract more talented individuals by expanding their provincial immigration program and modernize the processes. Businesses in Ontario are in need of experienced and capable individuals who are being welcomed warmly into the province through OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program). In a bid to increase the number of newcomers, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration – Laura Albanese along with Deputy Premier and Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development – Deb Mathews, made an appearance in University of Toronto’s Centre for International Experience and gave out important news regarding the same on 16th February 2017.
The federal government has made a decision to increase Ontario’s nominee from 500 aspirants to 6000 starting from the year 2017. This change has taken place in order to make Ontario’s economy competent with that of the world. Nominees chosen via OINP are directly introduced in the race for Permanent Residency of Canada who belongs to one of the following category of fields:
- Skilled Workers
- Experienced Entrepreneurs
- International Students
- Key Staff of established foreign corporations wishing to reach out to Ontario
Coming week of the month will witness the opening of application for OINP’s most successful streams, namely, International PhD Graduate Stream, Ontario Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream and International Masters Graduate stream. It has been found that international students play quite an important role in expanding of Ontario’s economy through their worldly connections as well as the language abilities.
Another change to take place is the modernization of the OINP process. The government has decided to take everything to internet and make application process paperless. This will benefit by speeding up the application process that will in turn result in better customer service and sooner filling up of positions in the businesses in Ontario.
