Nova Scotia’s population reached a new all-time high at the beginning of 2019 at 965,382 people.
The new total is an increase of more than 10,000 new residents since Jan. 1, 2018. The increase is largely due to last year’s record-breaking immigration numbers with 5,970 new permanent residents choosing to call Nova Scotia home.
More than 65 per cent of the total permanent resident landings were approved through provincial economic programs and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot.
The Federal Government has increased Nova Scotia’s immigration allocations for 2019 by a total of 454 new spaces, including 254 more endorsements under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot.
The Nova Scotia Office of Immigration surpassed both Provincial Nominee Program and Atlantic Immigration Pilot allocations in 2018 with 2,272 people approved by the province.
