Skills Assessment Requirements

Unless you are exempt in very limited circumstances, you are required to have a positive Skills Assessment to apply for the visas listed above.

Skills Assessment authority for Manufacturers is Vocational & Education Training Assessment (VETASSESS). To have a positive skills assessment, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualification assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher in a highly relevant field of study AND at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years

OR

  • Qualification assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher WITH an additional qualification at AQF Diploma level in a highly relevant field of study AND at least two years of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years

OR

  • Qualification assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher WITHOUT a highly relevant field of study AND at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the last five years
  • Applicants must meet both the qualification and employment requirements to obtain a positive skills assessment
  • Highly relevant fields of study include:
    • Manufacturing
    • Operations Management
  • Please note highly relevant fields of study that match the employment are to be accepted for this occupation provided that the employment is highly relevant and receives a positive assessment
  • According to VETASSESS, your pre-qualification experience may be considered in the skills assessment if it meets the following requirements:
    • 5 years of relevant pre-qualification employment; and
    • 1 year of highly relevant employment within the past five years

VETASSESS require Management Consultant applicants to provide an organisational chart for each period of employment in the last five years and the details of the consultancy engagements you were involved in.

Group Description

Plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate the operations of small manufacturing establishments.

Tasks

  • Identifying business opportunities, devising new manufacturing processes and determining products to be manufactured
  • Developing business plans and implementing operational, marketing, human resource and pricing procedures
  • Researching and implementing regulatory and statutory requirements affecting manufacturing operations and the environment
  • Directing the activities of production, warehouse, distribution and other operating units
  • Maintaining quality control systems for manufacturing, waste disposal, delivery and other procedures
  • Coordinating orders for raw materials, supplies and equipment, and arranging packaging, delivery and wholesaling of products
  • Overseeing the coordination of after-sales service
  • Overseeing the provision of quotes for the manufacture of specialised goods and arranging contracts with customers
  • May devise and oversee the implementation of production run schedules

In Australia and New Zealand:

Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
