Skills Assessment authority for Physicist is Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine and Vocational Education & Training Assessment (VETASSESS).

To have a positive skills assessment conducted by Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine, you must meet the following criteria:

• Educational and Professional Requirements
  • 4-year degree in Medical Physics
  • 4-year degree in Physics + 12 months full-time experience working as a Medical Physicist
  • 4-year degree in Physics + a Masters or PhD degree in Medical Physics
  • 3-year degree in Physics + 18 months full-time experience working as a Medical Physicist
  • 3-year degree in Physics + a PhD degree in Medical Physics

To have a positive skills assessment conducted by Vocational Education & Training Assessment (VETASSESS), you must meet the following criteria:

• Qualification assessed at AQF Diploma level WITH a highly relevant field of study AND at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the past five years;

OR

• Qualification assessed at AQF Diploma level WITH an additional qualification at AQF Certificate IV in a highly relevant field of study AND at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the past five years

OR

• Qualification assessed at AQF Diploma WITHOUT a highly relevant field of study AND at least two years of post-qualification highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level in the past five years
• Applicants must meet both the qualification and employment requirements to obtain a positive skills assessment
• Highly relevant fields of study include:
  • Physics

  • Engineering (Physics)
  • Nuclear Physics

This unit group covers Natural and Physical Science Professionals not elsewhere classified.
It includes Conservators, Metallurgists, Meteorologists and Physicists.

Skill Level

Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. In the case of Conservators, at least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).

Registration or licensing may be required.
