Oman Introduces Investment Residency: 5 & 10-Year Golden Visa Options

The Sultanate of Oman, known for its robust economic growth and business-friendly policies, has introduced an Investment Residency Program offering long-term golden visas for foreign investors. This initiative allows investors, business owners, and retirees to obtain 5- and 10-year residency permits, subject to meeting specific investment or income criteria.

Tier One: 10-Year Extended Residency

To qualify for Tier One, applicants must:

  • Make an investment of at least RO500,000 in a limited liability company, public joint-stock company, government bonds, or purchase property in Oman worth RO500,000.
  • Alternatively, establish a company that employs a minimum of 50 Omani nationals (no minimum capital required).

The Tier One residency permit is valid for 10 years, renewable, and the residence card fee is RO551 per applicant.

Tier Two: 5-Year Extended Residency

Tier Two requires a minimum investment of RO250,000 in a limited liability company, public joint-stock company, or property in Oman valued at RO250,000.

Expatriates already living in Oman who wish to retire in the country can also apply for Tier Two by demonstrating a fixed monthly income of at least RO4,000.

The Tier Two residency permit is valid for 5 years, renewable, with a residence card fee of RO326 per applicant.

Benefits of Oman’s Investment Residency

Oman ranks among the most cost-effective countries in the Middle East for doing business, according to the World Bank. Key benefits include:

  • 100% foreign ownership allowed
  • No personal income tax for residents (until 2028)
  • Free transfer of capital, profits, money, and dividends
  • Corporate tax of 15% and 5% VAT under Omani law

Starting 1 January 2028, residents earning over OMR 42,000 (approx. USD 110,000) annually will be subject to a 5% income tax on net income.

Takeaway

Oman’s Investment Residency Program provides a unique opportunity for investors, business owners, and retirees to enjoy long-term residency in a pro-business and economically stable environment. With flexible investment options, no personal income tax for most residents, and the chance for property ownership, Oman is quickly becoming a top destination for global investors.
