No word from Peter Dutton side from not challenging Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull again once the Liberal leadership ballot slips out of hands only by 13 votes.
Dutton assures to be the “better prospect” to head the Liberal party at the same he will accept and consider the result of the party vote and completely support the Turnbull government. Mr. Peter Dutton confronted the media immediately after losing the Liberal Leadership ballot by 35 votes to Malcolm Turnbull’s 48 votes. His words “I believe I had the best prospect of leading the Liberal Party to success at the next election,” he addressed the reporters. “That was not to be today and I understand and I respect the outcome and I fully support the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.”
Mr Dutton will step back to the backbench as he has resigned from his position as Home Affairs minister to maintain the tradition of cabinet solidarity. He stated – “I made a decision not because I had any animosity towards Malcolm Turnbull … I made a decision to contest this ballot because I want to make sure we can keep Bill Shorten from ever being prime minister of this country.” He also added that he would “do what I can as a backbencher to make sure that I support the government”.
